The Most Memorable Halloween Episodes

With October 31st creeping up slowly, its time to indulge in some of the spooky, yet festive Halloween episodes. With a score of Halloween installments dating back to when the television was first invented, it can be quite tricky to figure out which episodes are worth re-watching. It would be a crime for us to categorize these episodes at “Top 10 Best Halloween Episodes” because that’s simply does not do these episodes justice. We will just opt for making this your guide to some of the most entertaining and memorable episodes to date.

v Friends- The One With The Halloween Party (2001):
Chandler and Monica throw a Halloween party, complete with Monica’s uptight temperament. Ultimately, Joey dressing up as Chandler and Chandler donning a bright pink bunny costume are the highlights of this episode. You just have to love your friends.

v Boy Meets World- And Than There Was Shawn (1998)
Although a pigment of Shawn’s imagination and not an actual Halloween episode, the flickering lights, scary music, on cue dramatics from Eric and a stabbed Mr. Feeny provide a wonderfully wicked atmosphere. For the actual Halloween episode check out Witches of Pennbroke.

v That 70’s Show- To Old To Trick or Treat, To Young To Die (2000)
This episode is what happens when a group of teens is too old for Halloween. Full of Alfred Hitchcock references and Fez in girl’s underwear, there’s no question why this makes the top of our list. Also check out 1999’s episode, Halloween.

v Family Matters- Stevil (and Stevil II) (1996)
Urkel gets a brilliant plan to get an identical ventriloquist dummy for his act, which he’s horrible at. When lightening strikes the dummy, Stevil, he comes alive and tries to kill each person in the Winslow family that’s standing in the way of his dreams. Because you know there is nothing scarier than a dummy.

v Family Guy- Halloween on Spooner Street (2010)
“Were under attack by monsters, dear god,” screams Stewie and the episode literally speaks for itself. As Stewie faces his first Halloween where he thinks he’s going to get attacked by zombies, vampires and a Mexican princess, Meg attends her first high school Halloween party and Peter plays pranks on his friend Quagmeir.  Truthfully, you can never go wrong with a Family Guy episode.

v Pretty Little Liars- The First Secret (2011)
A flashback episode to a time when Ali was still alive and the girls were still her minions, it starts with Ali telling a creepy story about a twin that killed her sister. As the new girl in town fights Ali for her Queen B dominance, the girls go to a Halloween party where they get pranked by Ali, whose getting pranked by A. The episode provides missing pieces into the ongoing Alison Diaurentes murder mystery.

v How I Met Your Mother- Slutty Pumpkin (2005)
Ted continues his yearly tradition and goes to the Halloween party on the rooftop where he waits for “the slutty pumpkin” that he fell in love with a couple of years ago. Not even Barney’s proposition to attend the Victoria Secret yacht party can change his mind. Meanwhile, Marshall and Lily win the best couple costume contest with their Jack Sparrow and parrot costumes.

v Will and Grace- Boo! Humbug! (1998)
Will and Grace’s Halloween movie marathon gets ruined when get stuck babysitting their friends kids. Jack and Karen have no shame as they attend a Halloween parade in the city and Karen becomes an honorary drag queen.

v The Simpsons- Simpson TreeHouse of Horror VI (1995)
As the longest running Halloween special, each year’s episode is different and memorable in its own way. The VI installment was split into three parts: Attack of the 50 Foot Eyesores, Nightmare on Evergreen Terrace and Homer. In the first part, advertisements and billboards come to life and attack the residents of Springfield. Part two is a tribute to Nightmare on Elm Street in which a Freddy Kreuger look alike attacks children in their sleep. The final segment pays homage to the Twilight Zone, in which Homer is lost in a three dimensional world. Tune in on October 7 for The Simpsons TreeHouse of Horror XXIII.

v Buffy The Vampire Slayer- Halloween (1997)
Dressing to impress can be quite tough. Buffy decides to impress Angel by wearing a dress from the 18 century, a time that she thinks was one of his favorite. Unfortunately, one bad spell later and everyone assumes their costumes persona; Buffy becomes a frail, weak and confused noble woman, Willow turns into a ghost and Xander into a soldier. Isn’t the point of Halloween to become someone that your aren’t?
