The Vampire Diaries- Because the Night

"Don't underestimate the allure of darkness. Even the purest of heart are drawn to it."
Lets take a walk down memory lane. The Vampire Diaries takes New York. And not in the fashion I imagined. This was not a romantic getaway for Damon and Elena but rather Damon's continued hunt for the cure and Elena's attempt at fleeing from the brothers who are trying to help her. This proves that he really is a good guy. I can't say despite his love for Elena cause its thanks to his love for Elena that he wants to help her and fix her. Stefan isn't the only one that has been through a "humanity off" phase in his life. We got a little bit more insight to the Damon that turned off his humanity because of Katherine and understood a little deeper the impact that Lexi had on Damon's life. We always thought she was Stefan's friend, but for awhile she tried helping Damon. Ultimately, it led to her death in season one. Damon knows that once you get that humanity switch back on, you will regret everything you've ever done while you were on your evil binge so he's trying to make Elena understand that despite how good she feels with everything off, she can't live this way. The theme of "what goes around, comes around" is largely at play in this episode. Karma's a bitch, right Damon?

Elena is over it all and this makes for an interesting pairing; a power team if you will. Rebekah and Elena, the two that hated each other. Now, with Elena's humanity off, their kind of badass together. Clearly, without Elena sired to Damon, she doesn't really care about him at all. She tries to manipulate him with the same tricks that Damon used on others back in the day. She lets Rebekah snap his neck and steals his car to go hunt down Katherine. So from my understanding, Elena wants to find Katherine before Damon or Stefan do, so they don't get the hands on the cure, while Rebekah wants the cure for herself. Obviously Damon's little pep talk about how great it is to be a vampire didn't really work for Rebekah, who wants to have a family. Despite being a vampire for so long, she really has dreams and hopes for herself that go beyond being a strong and eternally young vampire, that can't really be killed. Yeah, I'm not sure what she's thinking either.

Klaus and Caroline; will they ever get together?? Klaus's statement about the darkness being alluring to even the purest of hearts applied a whole lot to this episode. Caroline thinks so highly of herself and so low of Klaus. Sure, he's had his fair share of wrong-doings and he's a pretty evil guy, but he's also been alive for decades and he's learned not to take anyones crap. He made Tyler leave and that has to do more with his love for Caroline and want to be with her than it is because of the fact that Tyler made it his life's mission to kill him. Everyone at some point in the show has made it their life's mission to kill Klaus. You don't see him throwing everyone out of town. But Caroline's strong suit is being judgmental. She's the reason 12 people, or rather witches, died. Of course, she couldn't let Bonnie die. It's her best friend. But she killed the 12 people to complete the triangle and give Silas the power to unleash all hell on earth.

By doing this, we also got to see that there is someone more powerful than Klaus roaming the streets of Mystic Falls now and that Klaus does in fact feel fear when it is present in his life. Klaus must now make a decision; protect himself or protect the others around him. His sister is the one with the lead on the cure. The cure is all that Silas is missing in his plot to destroy the other world. Will Klaus sell out his sister in order to keep his life? Or will this be a case of what goes around comes around and Klaus will run, leading into the first episode of "The Originals." As excited as I am for the spin-off show it means that Klaus and Caroline won't be and that makes me kind of upset. Yet, it sets up the scene for a possible Caroline and Stefan relationship. Unless Damon and Stefan are able to get the cure before Elena and Rebekah and they force it down Elena's throat. Than the Stefan and Elena relationship will once again dominate. If they don't get the cure, but are able to turn Elena's humanity on, she will once again be sired to Damon and they can live happily ever after. But are any of her feelings and emotions even real at this point??

Why doesn't Bonnie remember anything? Was this the work of the witches, who tried to clear her from expression and possibly succeeded? Or was this Sila's plan all along? But if Bonnie doesn't remember anything, and everyone else does its kind of a weak plan, right? I mean all the bad things Bonnie has done have been erased from her mind. Yet, Silas doesn't need her help anymore. He has everything he needs to execute his plot. Maybe this is his way of keeping Bonnie safe? But if he does need Bonnie again, and the witches erased her memory, maybe she isn't capable of expression anymore? Bonnie's character has taken a dark turn this season and I'm kind of annoyed that she's just being used left and right by people without any control. Come on girl, you are a witch. You have more power than half those people in Mystic Falls. If you use it properly, you could really do some damage. The whole idea of being a victim is what I consider Bonnie to be and I know she's stronger than that.

So basically, Damon got played. He's on the outs with Elena who outsmarted him. She teamed up with Rebekah to hunt down Katherine and get the cure. Next weeks promo's look awesome as evil Elena face evil Katherine in a curly hair vampire show down. Yeah, it will be epic. Will Katherine give the cure to Elena? Will Damon and Stefan be able to trace her? What will happen with Klaus and Silas? Will Silas get to the cure first? Silas and Klaus are two people that Katherine is completely afraid of. If they are able to get to her, than its over for the girl. Both brothers failed in their missions today, which brings them closer together. Do you think there is even a point in Elena trying to get a relationship back with either brother. Their so far down this rabbit hole of "he said, she said, he did, she did" that its kind of pointless. Elena's a mixture of both brothers as a vampire, but with her emotions off, she doesn't really care for either one. And if Silas succeeds, what will happen when all the supernatural creatures are brought back to earth? Can we really see the return of Jeremy? Is this the reason Klaus will flee Mystic Falls? Will all the people he's killed and scorned come after him?? Until next week folks!
