Glee- Britney 2.0

"We don't want Moreee"

I've expressed my dislike for Glee many times. When I tuned into last years  Britney episode, unimpressed. I decided to give the Britney 2.0 episode another go. Unfortunately, I still have nothing good to say.

The only worthwhile performance/ rendition was Rachel's cover of Britney's Oops... I did it again. The performance had substance and it was even mildly entertaining. It seemed possible that Britney's team was part of the successful performance, which paid homage to just how brilliantly a Britney song can be covered. You Drive Me Crazy was also acceptable because of the interesting acoustic sound. When one thinks of that song, lovey dovey serenading things do not come to mind, which is why it stood out.  It was also nicely combined with the other Crazy song, giving it a fresh new twist. Although I wasn't really feeling the whole "Grease" vibe on the bleachers.

One of my favorite Britney songs has got to be Everytime because it is filled with so much raw emotion and truth. The Glee version was sung properly, but it wasn't sung with any meaning.  Truthfully,  I don't think that anyone  can sing it with more feeling than Britney herself, since she wrote the song and knows exactly what heartache went into it. Nevertheless my ears did not bleed while listening to it, so i'll let it go.

I was not crazy about Gimme More, which was an epic fail. The Glee directors tried alluding to Britney's failed 2007 performance, but truthfully, one of those failed performances was enough. It was one that should have been quickly forgotten and never ever brought up again. Yet, Glee insisted on spinning it and just ended up being tacky and tasteless. While Brittany's character drank Fanta and ate Cheetos on stage, there was nothing humorous about it.  It was rather insulting to Britney and didn' even capture the nature of that fragile time. The director's missed the whole essence of Britney's dark times, which is unfortunate because it  could have made for a hell of an episode. Than again, I don't enjoy watching people profit on someone else's hardships. I'm not even going to mention Hold It Against Me because that was a crime to humanity.

Check out the video's and see for yourself. My advice for the future; we don't want more Britney episodes!
