Revenge- Destiny

"Some say to believe in destiny is to dismiss the role of free will. And self determination cannot prevail the presence of faith. The truth is, the only part of destiny we can control is the fate we choose for another."
Putting aside the fact that the season finale of Revenge was quite some time ago, it was fairly easy to get confused in this weeks season premiere. When we left off, Charlotte was overdosed on drugs, Emily and Daniel had called it quits, Amanda made an epic return complete with a baby bump, Victoria died in a plane crash and the discovery was made that Emily's mother could still be alive. Its rather unclear how much time has passed since that season finale, but I'm assuming its been a good couple of months, enough time for people to cope with the fact that Victoria had passed-- although I'm not sure many people needed lots of time to grief.

The beginning of the episode like and episode within and episode, mysterious, showing a wreckage underwater and a  diver investigating. Underwater the diver found a picture frame, with Jack and Declan's picture, a locket that I was shown again briefly further on in the episode so we know its Jacks   and a body. There was a quick zoom to the side of what seemed to be a boat that read "Amanda." Is it safe to assume that the season is starting with a glimpse of what we could expect in the season finale?? All we know is that Jack's beloved boat is going to go under like the Titanic. Will he be the on the boat? Whose the man that they find in the wreckage?

Back to the present, it seems that since we last saw her, Emily has been traveling the world. In the first few minutes of the episode she is seen tied to a wood block in the ocean, drowning and seeing visions of her mother at the hospital. She's in Japan with Takeda and some other unknown man, who ends up saving her. Her reaction is the opposite of grateful though, she is downright mad screaming that she was so close to unlocking another secret about her mother. There's that opening hook. Where is her mother? Is she dead or alive? Have people really been keeping her from Emily?? As she makes her way back to the Hampton's, her teacher and leader Takeda has given up on her and states that she failed the mission. What could he possibly be teaching her?? What is the mission anyways? In season 1 it was clear that her goal was to get revenge on the Grayson's for killing her father. Is that still what he's referring too??

And the madness begins! Putting her good memories to use, Emily and Nolan, whom has been getting much buffer and working out quite a bit, visit the shut down hospital where Emily's mother was last seen just days before the father was locked up. From Emily's memories it is to be understood that she was in the psychiatric asylum and her last visitor was Victoria. Was the mother really crazy? Did they want to make her seem crazy? Was it Victoria's evil plan to make her crazy and steal her husband?? Where could she be now??

Just as we started season one, its memorial day weekend. This of course means huge and luxurious parties for anyone at the Hamptons. Organized by the one and only Ashley, in a Victoria-esque way, it alludes us back to a time just last year, when Emily spilled her drink on Daniel and their great "love" began. But oh things are so different now. The mission for Emily is still the same. The villain is gone. Charlotte is on a path of recovery and Daniel is dating Ashley. Reference to that awkward encounter between ex's and ex friends and you have to admit, Emily holds herself with dignity. But as any party in the Hampton's disaster is just waiting to happen and what follows is anything but short of entertainement. According to Charlotte's mentor, her drug tests came back negative, which means her road to recovery is no more and she is forced back to the rehab center. Before she leaves, she admits to Emily that ta-da Victoria really is alive.

The bitch is back. Not that she was every gone in the first place, but whats a Grayson without some hidden secrets. She's in hiding working with the government to incriminate her husband and as Victoria predicted, Mr. Grayson is only after the money, meaning that he wants to keep Charlotte in rehab as long as possible to get her mother's inheritance money. After all his manipulation on Daniel isn't doing him any good. With a secret camera in Victorias house, we quickly learn that she is in fact working with that white haired hit man from last season. You know the one who killed Emily's father and the one Nolan is so terrified of and the one that Emily couldn't kill. Victoria's solution to everything of course is eliminating the liability, in this case Emily. That's what they did to her father, her mother and now her. But unlike those before her, Emily is armed and ready. Remember, revenge is more powerful than anything. But what can we interpret from this? Did Victoria have her mother killed? How could she have eliminated her? This must mean she's not alive right?

One cannot just leave out the focus on relationships, especially Ashley and Amanda. For what its worth, Ashley finally achieved her 5 minutes of fame, shadowing in Victoria Grayson's footsteps, yet she's really in for a surprise next week. As much as the commercials and previews tried to make us believe that Daniel was in love with her, their relationship is anything but love. He's distance towards her, she's only in it for the money and the way he looks and yearns after Emily after so much time, well that's going to play a big role in the episodes to come. Now Amanda, she's still the most annoying person in the world and like Declan told his brother, Jacks got to let her know that he doesn't love her. After that kiss last season when Sammie was dying and the way they look at each other, Jack loves Emily. The feeling is definitely mutual although I'm not sure how the relationship would really work. If Emily were to expose Amanda, Amanda would expose Emily to everyone and thats the end of her revengeful plotting. Also, I don't seem to understand why Takeda wants Amanda and Emily to be allies in this mission. Similairly, whose baby is that? Because I am forced to believe it is not Jack's baby and the only reason Amanda even is pregnant is because Takeda wants Emily to be focused on the goal and not be distracted.

We start of the season already pretty clueless and way out of the loop. For the months that Emily was gone, so were we and now its time to get a grip on things. The story must continue with the return of the big bad wolf and according to the previews will follow with Emily taking one bold move. As Victoria took her mother from her, she must take Charlotte away from Victoria. Could Emily really be able to kill her own sister though?? Or by take away does she mean make Charlotte so disgusted of her mother that she never wants to look at fire. Season 2 seems to playing with wicked fire.
